From Scratch Pita

by Handjobs For The Home on April 3, 2012

My motto for pretty much everything is, “I could make that.” Whether it be food or home decor. I mean this is Handjobs For The Home after all. So needless to say, inspiration is kind of endless for me. It’s finding the time to execute that seems to be the problem (ahem, sorry for the lack of posts here kiddos).

Living in Astoria, aka little Athens, I’m surrounded by Greek food on a daily basis. And with Greek food comes pitas. Do you see where I’m going with this?

Habanero Hot Sauce

by Handjobs For The Home on March 22, 2012

Hot sauce is one of those things –everybody loves it. Or at least everyone I know does. I could pretty much put it on anything. Pizza with hot sauce anyone?! But I’m pretty much over store bought hot sauce like Tabasco. In my opinion it has no real flavor — just hot. Homemade hot sauce though? Now that’s a different story…

10 Questions with Well Preserved!

by Handjobs For The Home on March 12, 2012

It’s been a while since I’ve done a 10 questions with, and frankly I missed it. I love learning new little tid bits about the people who write blogs that I love.

Dana and Joel are no exception. They are fantastic, amazing, accomplished preservers. Their blog, Well Preserved is absolutely stunning, and their wealth of information is always astounding. Plus, their store is pretty much to die for. I am totally in love with their Periodic Table of Waterbath Preserving chart – essential for every kitchen wall!

I’ve been reading Dana and Joel’s blog for a little over a year, and have learned so much. I covet the dehydrating posts, since I’m still new to the trade. If you’re a first time preserver, this is a great place to start!

So, without further ado…

Preserves Cabinet: Before + After

by Handjobs For The Home on March 6, 2012

As you might have seen, I’m pretty big on DIY’ing it up in the kitchen. But what some of you might not know, is that I’m also pretty handy around the home too. It is Handjobs For the Home after all.

You know what they say — another mans junk is another mans treasure. I like to think I see the beauty in a beat up old piece of furniture. In fact, I quite like old pieces of furniture. Now I know I posted it on the Facebook page, but I have to share this website with you here, on the blog. The Jam Labelizer is amazing. Make labels for all of your jams and pickles, or anything else that deserves a cute label. I whipped up my Black Onion Relish label in under [...]

Making Almond Meringues

February 16, 2012

I’ve never considered myself a big meringue fan. To me, they tasted nothing more than styrofoam. I soon found out it was due to my under developed pallet of grocery store meringues. It was about a year ago, when my dearest French friend, Emeline, made me some homemade meringues. I’ll admit, I was a bit [...]
