The Shops: Vegetabowls’

by Handjobs For The Home on August 14, 2012

For those of you who live under a rock and don’t already know what Etsy is, I’m sorry. Really, I feel bad for you. It’s pretty much the best website ever and it will change your life. It’s loaded with unique handmade home accessories from freshly knit winter mittens, to handcrafted iPhone cases, to homespun pillows, to artisanal jams and honey. Once you get hooked, you wont be able to stop. So if you have an addictive personality, steer clear.

Starting today, I’ll be featuring one of my favorite Etsy finds of the week. I’m constantly hunting for the perfect, one of a kind home accessories — it’s like yard saleing only better. I’ll give you a little info about the designer and where you can get it.

So today, I’m kicking this new weekly column off with a company called Vegetabowls.

I’m always looking for that perfect bowl. You know, the kind that feels the perfect amount of cozy between your hands on a Saturday morning filled with a bowl of maple yogurt and granola? (Yes, I’ve been enjoying the amazing breakfast place downstairs, Iris Cafe, a little too much lately). Well these handcrafted cantaloupe bowls might just be the perfect thing.

Handcrafted by Melanie Mckenney and her husband Justin in Tonawanda, New York, these bowls are molded from local, seasonal fruits and vegetables. Yes that’s right, these bowls change with the seasons. I absolutely love the organic feeling for the bowls from the uneven rim, to the thick texture on the outside. They also take special requests if you’re looking for something more specific.

Very realistic looking. Do they stack better though? Do you have them balanced to show them off more? Space is always an issue.
